Korea D-4 General Training Visa — How It Differs from D-2

Overview

D-4 (General Training) applies to those receiving education or training, or engaging in research, at institutions, companies or organisations outside the scope of D-2 educational and academic research institutions.

Language training uses sub-codes D-4-1 (Korean) and D-4-7 (foreign language). In practice it is also useful that language training is open to any lawfully staying foreign national regardless of status.

Requirements, documents and periods in this article follow the Korea Immigration Service (Ministry of Justice) Foreign Residence Guide Manual (March 2026) and the Immigration Act and its Enforcement Decree/Rules (law.go.kr). The manual is supplementary guidance; approval is decided by the reviewing officer. Always confirm your own case with the competent Immigration Office.
